1. Introduce Our Institute
Smart Learning Institute (SLI) was established on March 2015, which is affiliated to BNU and serves as an experimental platform comprising scientific research, technology development and education and teaching. SLI is also a joint venture between BNU and Fujian HuaYu Education Technology Co. Ltd. and its parent firm NetDragon Websoft Inc..
By utilizing the advantages and resources of BNU and HuaYu, SLI aims to establish “Industry-Academia-Research (IAR)”cooperation mechanism; enable life-long learning by building smart learning environments and personalized educational platforms that reflect the needs and aspirations of the digital generation.
Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University follows the project-based team management and evaluation system, and PI responsibility system to form an efficient governance mechanism with expandable research areas and high-quality team. It hosts more than 100 full-time and part-time staff, including 15 professors (6 of which are famous international experts), 29 associate professors, 4 oversea post doctorates, more than 30 postgraduate and PhD students, and over 30 industry personnel. By connecting resources between schools and companies, the Institute established a diversified HR system, which promotes high-end academic atmosphere and its international influence.

Dr. Kinshuk, Dean of the College of Information, University of North Texas, founder and editor-in-chief of Smart Learning Environment journal, series editor of Springer’s Lecture Notes in Educational Technology series and Smart Computing and Intelligence series.

Dr. Chee Kit Looi, Professor of Learning Sciences & Technologies Academic Group & Learning Sciences Lab, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University; Head of Centre of Excellence in Learning Innovation; Founding Head of Learning Sciences Lab.
Dr. Chen Nian-Shing, chair professor of Department of Information Management, National Sun Yat-sen University, chief editor of Educational Technology & Society, chairman of IEEE Learning Science and Technology Committee.
Zhou Mingquan is a second-grade professor of Beijing Normal University and was nominated as selected academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2015. Currently, he is Director of the Virtual Reality Application Engineering Research Center (attached to the Ministry of Education), Director of the Key Laboratory for Digital Preservation and Virtual Reality for Beijing’s Cultural Heritage. Meanwhile, he also serves as Executive Vice President of China Virtual Reality and Visual Industry Technological Innovation Strategic Association, Vice Chairman of China Society of Image and Graphics, Director of China Computer Society, Director of Chinese Information Processing Society of China, a member of the Steering Committee for Software Engineering Instruction (attached to Ministry of Education). It is a great honor to mention that Professor Zhou was awarded one Second Prize of State Scientific and Technological Progress Award (in the 12th Five-year Plan period, BNU won two awards for being the first unit to finish the tasks), three Second Prizes of Scientific Progress Award by the Ministry of Education, and two more national awards for Outstanding Achievements in Education.
Zhang Xiong is a professor and doctoral tutor of Beihang University (BUAA) and is now Director of Engineering Research Center for Advanced Computer Application Technology established by the Ministry of Education, member of the Instruction Steering Committee for College Computer Science and Technology, 863 Principle Scientist of Smart Chinese City initiated by Ministry of Science and Technology, Vice Chairman of the Industrial Technology Innovation Association for Smart Chinese Cities, member of the expert group for National Golden Card Project Coordination and Steering Group, member of the National Golden Fiscal Project Expert Consultancy Committee. Prof. Xiong has won the honorary title of an “Outstanding Teacher in Beijing”, “a Model Teacher in Beijing”. The professor’s research field covers big data, multimedia technology, large-scale application engineering, wireless sensor networks and so forth.
Guangzuo Cui is a professor and doctoral tutor of Beijing Normal University. Not only did he participate in and preside over numerous scientific programs like National Natural Science Foundation of China, the key projects of the National 10th Five-year Plan, the 863 Plan, and key projects of the 863 Plan, National Social Science Foundation, but also published over 70 pieces of papers and a book titled on The Instructional Theory and Practice of Thinking Skills. At present, he is engaging in research works concerning thinking skills and instructions such as teaching for development of thinking ability, mathematics education, cultivation of innovative ability. The professor’s achievement in those areas has obtained practical effects in primary and middle schools and social training and is promoted around the country.
Lei Fan is a professor and doctoral tutor of Capital Normal University and is currently Vice President of the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University, member of Basic Education Curriculum and Teaching Material Expert Working Committee of the Ministry of Education (Second Session), member of Chinese Mathematical Society, Systems Engineering Society of China, and Electronic Engineering Society, Director of Fuzzy Systems Committee of Systems Engineering Society of China and member of the editorial board of the journal Fuzzy Systems and Mathematics. The professor has worked on theoretical computer science, mathematics, educational technology, knowledge engineering, and web technology, etc., devoted to the research work of more than 60 pieces of papers publishing on relevant topics (including 3 pieces of SCI research level, more than 20 pieces of EI or ISTP research level), 12 pieces of monographs and textbooks, and 1 piece of translated work.
Professor Yanyan Li is a professor and doctoral tutor of Beijing Normal University. She mainly works on Web2.0 Platform based learning resources designation and application, computer-aided collaborative learning, individualized and adaptive learning, and learning analysis and so on. Professor Li has presided over projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and jointly developed projects, teaching reform projects and crosswise projects by key laboratories in Beijing, participating in multiple projects such as the 973 Project of key national basic research projects, and cultivating foundation for scientific and technological innovation for institutes of higher learning. She has published over 70 pieces of academic papers in journals at home and abroad as well as in international conferences, three of which were accredited the Best Paper Award of International Conference. Many of the papers are enlisted in the SSCI/SCI indexes. Besides, she published an English work titled Smart Learning Environments. Li is also chairwoman or member of multiple international conference program committees and executive editor of the Journal of Computers in Education and the editorial member of three international journals as well.
Apart from the above-mentioned co-advisors, executives and senior researchers from NetDragon Websoft Inc. are also devoting their experiences and wisdom to this cause. Meanwhile, a bunch of rich-experienced “assistant” co-advisors will cooperate with the post doctorates, which include Dr. Dingwen Zhang, Dr. Yuan Gao, Dr. Zhizhen Zhang , Dr. Haijun Zeng, Dr. Lanqin Zheng, Dr. Guoqing Zhao and Dr. Yushun Li, etc.
3. Recruitment Directions
1) Virtual Reality in Education:
Research will focus on identities of students in virtual reality, reliable environments, interactive patterns of students-devices-environments and characteristics of cognitive processes, the design and assessment of VR classrooms, the design and application of subject instructional resources, the language learning in multiple user’s virtual environment (MUVE) and the models of teaching in VR environment.
2) Big Data in Education
Focus on (1) collecting, clearing, storing and analyzing big data and their visual presentation; (2) designing and developing the learning and analysis system based on big data in education; (3) building large scale applications of big data in education and its related issues such as information security, ethics, policies and regulations, and so on.
3) Knowledge Technology:
Research will be carried out on knowledge ontology libraries for K-12 schools, knowledge map construction, knowledge visualization, knowledge modeling and diagnosis of students and teachers in primary and high schools.
4) Cloud Computing in Education
Research in this space will focus on exploring educational cloud platforms based on research of educational pedagogies and technologies, cloud computing engines, visualization of educational data, as well as research and development of virtual experimental platforms and self-adaptation assessment service based on cloud technologies.
5) Internet of Things in Education
Research will focus on intelligent sensors and digital labs, including: developing equipment to assist senior cognition, expanding human learning skills and knowledge integration, and utilizing intelligent technologies to design, implement and optimize school environments (including classroom, campus, school district).
6) ICT-based Instruction
Research on the learning patterns and characteristics of children and adolescent students in digital environments. The research will also focus on design and demonstrate new technologies in classroom teaching, capacity building to increase teachers’ professional competency in ICT-based environments, and the evaluation of new products, new technologies and new methods in smart education.
Be in line with or above the enrollment requirements described in BNU’s
1) Have obtained doctorate in top universities;
2) Under 35 years old, be able to work in full-time.
3) Have relevant degree and scientific research experience aligned with the research direction described above; Have solid theoretical, academic and research background; Have undertook substantial research work, and have high-quality scientific research achievements;
4) Have strong ability in independent research, teamwork, good communication and coordination skills, and excellent English oral and written skills.
1) Work full-timely at the Institute, undertake research work and tasks assigned by the Institute.

6. Remuneration Package
1) Welfare and remuneration are governed by relevant regulations based on post doctorate of Beijing Normal University (including basic salary and allowance subsidies, social insurance and public housing fund).
